Clinical Healthcare Support Worker (CHCSW)
The Clinical Healthcare Support Worker (CHCSW) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary maternity team, supporting midwives, obstetricians, and other healthcare professionals in the delivery of safe, high-quality, compassionate care to women, babies, and their families on the Labour Ward.
The post holder will assist in providing direct patient care within their scope of practice, contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, and support the smooth day-to-day running of the ward.
The role includes assisting with clinical and non-clinical duties, preparing and cleaning clinical areas and equipment, maintaining infection prevention and control standards, replenishing stock and supplies, and providing practical and emotional support to women and their families throughout their maternity journey.
The post holder will work under the supervision and direction of registered midwives, ensuring that care is delivered with dignity, respect, and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Support midwives and the multidisciplinary team in providing safe, high-quality care to women, babies, and their families throughout labour, birth, and the postnatal period.
- Assist with basic patient care, including hygiene needs, mobility, comfort measures, feeding, and observation of maternal and neonatal wellbeing.
- Undertake and record clinical observations, escalating any concerns promptly to the registered midwife.
- Monitor and replenish stocks of cleaning materials, PPE, and clinical supplies.
- Dispose of clinical and domestic waste safely and according to Trust procedures.
- Report any maintenance, environmental, or cleanliness concerns to the appropriate department.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
- Attend mandatory training and participate in personal development activities.
- Work effectively as part of the maternity team, contributing to a safe and supportive environment for women, babies, families, and colleagues.

About the Trust

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.
This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.
