Clinical Lead – 24/7 Palliative & End of Life Care
Are you an experienced nurse leader looking to make a transformative impact on 24/7 palliative and end-of-life care?
We have been retained by an outstanding healthcare organisation to source a strategic, compassionate Clinical Lead to oversee and develop their specialist 24-hour palliative care service.
This pivotal position provides clinical leadership and management support to a dedicated team, ensuring the delivery of responsive, evidence-based, and high-quality patient care. Working closely with senior directors and medical leadership, you will help shape the strategic vision of community end-of-life care, deputise for the Director of Nursing, and foster an environment of continuous learning and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Operational Leadership: Lead, inspire, and manage the 24/7 palliative care team, ensuring safe, effective, and transparent service delivery.
- Strategic Development: Collaborate with executive clinical directors to shape the future vision of the service, translating national and local healthcare strategies into operational success.
- Quality Improvement & Governance: Oversee clinical governance, risk management, CQC compliance, and CQC/NICE standards while leading audits and service improvement initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key health and social care partners, promoting seamless care pathways and raising awareness of specialist services.
- People & Team Management: Oversee workforce planning, duty rotas, recruitment, appraisals, and staff development, maintaining a supportive and reflective learning culture.
- On-Call Support: Participate in the senior clinical on-call rota and deputise for the Director of Nursing and Clinical Services as required.

Key Requirements
- Professional Registration: Active NMC Registration as a Registered Adult Nurse.
- Education & Qualifications:
- Post-registration qualification in Palliative Care, Oncology, or a relevant clinical area.
- Degree-level education in a relevant field.
- Advanced Communication Skills qualification (or willingness to undertake).
- Leadership qualification or Master's-level study is advantageous.
- Clinical Experience: Significant senior clinical background in specialist palliative care, oncology, or end-of-life care.
- Leadership Track Record: Proven experience managing teams, leading through organisational change, developing staff, and overseeing recruitment.
- Skills & Knowledge: Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement methodology, hospice/community care frameworks, and end-of-life pathways.
