Location: Milesian Manor Lifestyle Care Home, 9 Ballyheifer Road

Milesian Manor Care Home (Magherafelt) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Lead to join our team on a full-time basis. The Clinical Lead will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the highest standards of nursing care within the Home. Working closely with the Nurse Manager, the Clinical Lead will provide clinical leadership and support to the nursing and care teams, ensuring residents receive safe, person-centred and compassionate care.
This is a 37-hour per week role, comprising approximately 22 hours providing hands-on nursing care and 15 hours dedicated to clinical leadership, administration and management support.
The role will provide an important link between the nursing and care teams and the Nurse Manager, supporting the effective delivery of care and promoting a positive culture of continuous improvement.
Please note that flexibility will be required. Where the needs of the Home and residents require additional nursing support, the Clinical Lead may be required to prioritise clinical duties and forgo some or all of their allocated office hours. When the Nurse Manager is absent from the Home, the Clinical Lead will provide additional management support and will have full office hours to assist with the effective management of the Home.
The Role Will Normally Comprise
- 22 hours per week – Nursing/clinical duties.
- 15 hours per week – Clinical leadership, administration and management support.
The allocation of hours may vary according to the operational and clinical needs of the Home. The Clinical Lead may be required to undertake additional nursing duties and forgo allocated office/administrative time where resident care and staffing requirements necessitate this.
About The Role
Clinical Leadership & Resident Care
- Provide strong clinical leadership and support to the nursing and care teams.
- Lead by example in delivering safe, effective, compassionate and person-centred care.
- Promote and maintain high standards of nursing practice throughout the Home.
- Support nurses and care staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of residents' care.
- Undertake clinical assessments and reviews and support the development and review of individual care plans.
- Monitor residents' changing needs and ensure appropriate action is taken where concerns are identified.
- Support the management of clinical incidents, accidents, safeguarding concerns and changes in residents' condition.
- Promote residents' dignity, privacy, independence and choice at all times.
- Act as a clinical resource for staff, providing guidance, advice and support where required.
Quality, Compliance & Clinical Governance
- Support the Nurse Manager in ensuring the Home meets all relevant regulatory and professional standards.
- Promote compliance with RQIA requirements, Company policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
- Monitor standards of care through regular clinical oversight, audits, observations and reviews.
- Identify areas for improvement and work with the Nurse Manager and wider team to implement appropriate actions.
- Support the completion and review of clinical audits and action plans.
- Ensure appropriate standards are maintained in relation to medicines management, including the safe storage, administration and recording of medicines and controlled drugs.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practice and continuous professional development.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and contemporaneous clinical records.

Leadership & Staff Development
- Provide day-to-day clinical guidance and support to nurses and care staff.
- Support the induction and development of new nursing and care staff.
- Identify training and development needs within the clinical team and raise these with the Nurse Manager.
- Support staff to maintain professional standards and promote accountability for the quality of care delivered.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback to staff where appropriate.
- Promote effective communication and positive working relationships across the Home.
- Support the Nurse Manager with staff performance, conduct and capability matters where appropriate.
Communication & Partnership Working
- Develop positive and professional relationships with residents, relatives and representatives.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, pharmacists, district nurses, allied health professionals and other external healthcare professionals.
- Communicate changes in residents' health and care needs promptly and appropriately.
- Respond professionally to concerns raised by residents, relatives or staff and escalate matters to the Nurse Manager where appropriate.
- Support positive relationships with RQIA and other external stakeholders.
Management Support
- Work closely with the Nurse Manager to support the effective day-to-day running of the Home.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical and quality improvement plans.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Nurse Manager to review clinical standards, resident outcomes, staffing and areas for improvement.
- Assist with the management of clinical resources and ensure appropriate standards of staffing and care delivery are maintained.
- Support the Nurse Manager in monitoring staffing levels and responding to operational pressures.
- When the Nurse Manager is absent, provide appropriate leadership and management support to ensure the continued safe and effective operation of the Home.
- During periods when the Nurse Manager is absent, take responsibility for escalating and managing issues within the scope of the role and seek appropriate support where required.
Health & Safety
- Promote a safe environment for residents, visitors and staff.
- Ensure Company Health & Safety procedures are followed within the nursing and care environment.
- Identify and report hazards, risks and incidents promptly.
- Support appropriate action following accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Promote infection prevention and control standards throughout the Home.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements relating to data protection and resident privacy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards and best practice.
- Take responsibility for continuing professional development and maintain competence within the scope of practice.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with Macklin Care Homes' values, policies and procedures.
