Job Overview

We are seeking to recruit a qualified lawyer (Solicitor /CILEx Fellow Litigator and Advocate (Civil) / Barrister) in the fields of clinical negligence, personal injury and/or public inquiries to join our General Medical Practice Indemnity GMPI team (GMPI).

The team manages clinical negligence claims against those engaged in the delivery of primary care services on behalf of Local Health Boards and NHS Trusts in Wales, including GPs.

Your role will initially be based at Companies House

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Managing a varied caseload of clinical negligence claims on behalf of the NHS in Wales (including claims against GPs and GP service providers “GPs”), providing guidance to GPs and undertaking advocacy where appropriate.
  • Supporting clients in respect of patient Concerns/Redress matters.

This is a varied role which will allow the post holder to develop a wide range of skills. We pride ourselves on our relationships with our clients and the quality of our service. Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Law Degree & Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (or equivalent)
  • Qualified with litigation and advocacy rights: Qualified solicitor admitted to the roll of solicitors of England and Wales CILEx Litigator and Advocate (Civil) Qualified barrister admitted to the bar in England and Wales (or committed to qualifying with these rights within 6-12 months)
  • Relevant legal knowledge

Desirable Criteria

  • Structure of the NHS.
  • Relevant healthcare-related law.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Experience gained through training within clinical negligence/personal injury/public inquiries

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of drafting documents and advice to clients.
  • Defendant/claimant clinical negligence experience

  • IT Skills/Computer literate to include the ability to learn new technologies and IT introduced
  • Ability to communicate in all formats, in plain English
  • Ability to negotiate in often difficult or emotional circumstances
