Specialist Palliative Care Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for permanent Specialist Palliative Care Nurse, 37.5 hours to join the Palliative Care Hospital Liaison Team as part of the Palliative Care Service in Northumbria Healthcare Trust. The post will be Trustwide covering Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) in Cramlington, Wansbeck General Hospital, Ashington and North Tyneside General Hospital, North Shields.

The team support medical and nursing staff in caring for palliative patients with complex needs in an acute hospital setting. The service will cover 7 days a week, the post holder will be part of the staff rota to cover hours which includes weekends and Bank Holidays.

This role includes exposure prone procedures (EPP).

The Post Holder Will

  • Provide specialist palliative care for patients with life limiting illnesses in community settings.
  • Develop partnerships with members of Multidisciplinary Team in the Trust in order to provide a seamless service of palliative care, to enable the patient to be maintained in an environment of their choice.
  • Provide clinical professional support, resources and education when necessary to members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary environment, ensuring adherence to professional codes of conduct.
  • Work with other professionals to promote and develop the ethos of Palliative Care within the Trust and the local community.

The successful candidate will be a vital member of the Palliative Care Team across both North Tyneside and Northumberland which is a large multidisciplinary service including Consultants, Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and Nursing Assistants.
