Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support patients with secondary breast cancer and those receiving neoadjuvant treatment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while working within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
As a CNS, you will act as a key worker throughout the patient journey, providing expert clinical advice, care coordination, symptom management, and psychological support. You will work autonomously while collaborating closely with the breast care team and wider healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care and continuity across the cancer pathway.
The successful candidate will support patients, families, and carers, coordinate complex treatment pathways, facilitate access to investigations and treatments, and contribute to service development, quality improvement, and patient experience initiatives.
We are looking for a registered nurse with excellent communication, organisational, and clinical skills, a passion for delivering exceptional cancer care, and the ability to build strong therapeutic relationships.

Main duties of the job
In This Key Role, Responsibilities Include
- Act as a key worker for patients undergoing neo-adjuvant/adjuvant treatment and those with secondary breast cancer, providing holistic assessment, care planning, treatment coordination, and ongoing support throughout the patient pathway.
- Deliver specialist clinical care and psychological support to patients with complex cancer care needs through nurse-led clinics, inpatient reviews, and remote consultations.
- Provide expert advice, education, and information to patients, families, and carers, enabling informed decision-making and promoting supported self-management.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure seamless communication, continuity of care, and integration of services across primary and secondary care.
- Advocate for patients, coordinate referrals, and signpost to appropriate services to meet physical, psychological, and supportive care needs.
- Support service development through participation in audit, quality improvement, research, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Contribute to the education and development of staff, providing clinical supervision, teaching, mentorship, and specialist knowledge within the Trust.
- Maintain professional standards, uphold clinical governance requirements, and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality cancer care.

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development
- State registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
- Diploma/Degree in relevant area or evidence of study to that level.
Desirable criteria
- Advanced Communication skills training or willingness to undertake.
- Post registration training preferably in cancer
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how to apply to self and others
- Evidence of significant, relevant clinical experience at Band 5 preferably in an Oncology or Breast care setting.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate evidence of Breast Cancer related learning
