Job Description

Job Summary

We have 2 exciting opportunities in the valve specialist nursing team at Leeds General Infirmary for Registered Nurse to join the team.

The successful candidates will be responsible for co-ordination of patients referred to the valve services, including organisation of investigations, preparation and planning of the valve multi-disciplinary team meetings. They will also be involved in the management of valve patients on the wards and you will pre-assess and follow-up patients in the out-patient clinics.

The successful candidates will work as part of the team under the supervision of the Valve Nurse Specialist Team Leader and the Consultant Cardiologist pathway.

Applicants must be registered nurse with substantive post-registration experience in cardiac services. They must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Applicants must have agreement from their current line manager that they are happy to release them into this role and facilitate movement in a timely manner.

Start date will ideally be late September 2026.

There are two posts, 1 substantive full-time post and 1 is currently a fixed term post full-time until end of August 2027, however there may be a possibility of funding being extended, however this cannot be confirmed presently.

The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.

Criteria

What you will bring to the role

  • Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas (Level 1 or 2))
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience of teaching and assessment
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary
  • Post registration qualification in specialty (desirable)
  • Nurse Prescribing qualification (desirable)
  • Significant and recent relevant experience working as a Band 5 Staff Nurse or equivalent post registration experience within speciality
  • Understanding of current issues in healthcare
  • Experience of clinical audit and standard setting (desirable)
  • Service development and/or change management (desirable)
  • Compassionate and caring
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own and other’s workload
  • Motivator of self and others with a positive approach to change
