Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work within and be part of a growing psychology service, which is based at Royal Preston Hospital. As a Band 7 psychological practitioner within our Clinical Health Psychology Service, you will have a vital role in helping patients to recover after hospital admissions and adapt to life altering physical health conditions, injuries or changes.
You will offer specialist psychological assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions to patients across the range of clinical pathways we deliver. You will also offer consultation to the MDTs you will be working with and staff training across the health community.
There will be opportunity to develop understanding of the operational running of an outpatient psychology service as you rotate across each of the pathways of care we provide. There will also be opportunity to shape the patient pathways and experiences of care by contributing to the running and development of the Clinical Health Psychology Service in consultation and collaboration with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Head of Service, clinical colleagues, and key stakeholders in the Clinical Business Unit.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
