Qualified Clinical Biochemistry Practitioner/Scientist

Role Overview

Qualified Clinical Biochemistry practitioner/scientist working within Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS).

Responsibilities

We are looking for the right person who can provide routine and specialist laboratory services, support clinicians, develop expertise, and contribute to service improvements.

Deliver a Safe, High-Quality Clinical Biochemistry Service

You would work as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team, ensuring patient results are accurate, reliable, and produced safely.

Provide Scientific and Clinical Support

You would support doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals by providing advice and interpreting or discussing laboratory results where appropriate.

Teaching and Training

The role involves helping to teach and train colleagues, students, and other healthcare professionals in your area of expertise.

Provide a Scientific and Clinical Service

You will be expected to work as a qualified Clinical Biochemistry practitioner and provide laboratory support to doctors and other healthcare professionals across the BSPS network. This could include:

  • Performing and reviewing biochemical investigations.
  • Ensuring results are accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate.
  • Responding to clinical enquiries and providing scientific advice.

  • Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Help Develop and Verify New Assays

This is an important technical responsibility. You could be involved in introducing a new laboratory test or analyser method. This may involve:

  • Reviewing the scientific evidence for the assay.
  • Testing its analytical performance.
  • Assessing precision, accuracy, sensitivity, and other performance characteristics.
  • Comparing a new method with an existing method.
  • Documenting the verification/validation work.
