Band 7 | Permanent
37.5 Hours per Week (Shift Working Including Long Days, Weekends & Bank Holidays)
Crisis Outreach & Acute Support Team (COAST) | Chalkhill, Haywards Heath
£49,387 – £56,515 per annum

Who can apply
We welcome applications from experienced registered professionals, including:
- Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN)
- Learning Disability Nurses (RNLD)
- Adult Nurses (where appropriate to the role)
Applicants must hold current professional registration and have significant experience working with children and young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties.
You'll ideally bring:
- Strong leadership and clinical decision-making skills
- Experience managing high-risk mental health presentations
- Excellent assessment and risk management skills
- Experience supervising and supporting multidisciplinary colleagues
- A passion for delivering innovative, family-centred crisis care
The role
As the Senior CAMHS Clinical Lead within COAST, you'll provide visible clinical leadership across the service while maintaining involvement in direct patient care.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert clinical leadership across the multidisciplinary team
- Supporting clinicians managing complex and high-risk cases
- Leading specialist mental health assessments in community, hospital and emergency settings
- Delivering intensive home treatment where required
- Providing formal and informal clinical supervision and reflective practice
- Leading multidisciplinary discussions, formulation and complex decision-making
- Supporting development of new clinical pathways and models of care
- Promoting trauma-informed, psychologically informed and least restrictive practice
- Leading clinical governance, audit, incident reviews and quality improvement work
- Supporting workforce development through teaching, coaching and mentorship
- Deputising for the Service Manager on clinical matters when required
A clinical caseload will be maintained alongside leadership responsibilities, depending on service demand.
About the service
COAST (Crisis Outreach & Acute Support Team) provides specialist crisis assessment and intensive home treatment for children and young people experiencing acute mental health difficulties across Sussex.
The service aims to:
- Provide rapid assessment and intervention during mental health crises
- Prevent unnecessary inpatient admissions wherever safe and appropriate
- Deliver intensive treatment within young people's homes and communities
- Work closely with inpatient CAMHS, emergency departments and community services
- Develop innovative alternatives to hospital admission through the Hospital at Home model
As travel across Sussex forms part of the role, access to a car is essential.

We're seeking an experienced clinician who can:
- Demonstrate strong clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary environment
- Lead complex case discussions and formulation meetings
- Provide expert advice on risk assessment and safety planning
- Promote evidence-based practice and implementation of NICE guidance
- Support colleagues through supervision, coaching and reflective practice
- Lead learning from incidents, safeguarding reviews and complaints
- Build strong partnerships across health, social care and wider agencies
- Drive continuous improvement and service development
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Band 6 ready to step into a senior leadership role, or an established Band 7 looking to influence service development within specialist CAMHS crisis care.
