SUMMARY
The Clinical Specialist (CS) role acts as an ambassador to raise the profile of Urgo Medical’s commitment within the healthcare environment. With a strong focus on the promotion of Urgo medical’s portfolio of clinical evidence which supports delivery of best practice. The CS will lead on the development of relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) within the NHS and relevant healthcare providers across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and establish Urgo Medical as a strong ethical partner of choice. Professional clinical registration (e.g. NMC) is a mandatory requirement for this role and must be maintained to assure clinical credibility and safe practice. The CS is required to demonstrate contemporary knowledge and expertise in wound care practice by recognising and acting on personal professional development needs. Responsible for promoting the use of relevant national and international clinical guidelines and standards. Clinical activities will have a clear business objective with a demonstrable commercial return on investment whilst remaining patient focused and will be aligned within the boundaries of the clinical strategy.
Key Accountabilities and responsibilities
The Clinical Specialist will support the company’s key business objectives through the delivery of the clinical strategy within an aligned region which includes but is not limited to the following:
Commercial delivery and market access
- Contribute to the delivery of annual sales, market share and territory growth objectives across the advanced wound care and compression portfolios.
- Drive sustainable business growth through effective account management, opportunity prioritisation, strategic KOL engagement, project evolution and development and implementation of clinical pathways.
- Monitor performance against objectives and implement corrective action where required
- Understand and be aware of competitor products, company activity and share this information with appropriate line manager.

- Develop and lead on smart clinical projects including service led audits and evaluations that build on current existing smart science within the Urgo Medical clinical evidence portfolio.
- Assist in the recruitment of clinical centres to participate in clinical evaluations/studies (combining the needs of the local organisation, marketing, KOL’s and the wider global Urgo business).
- Support the development and implementation of appropriate evaluation tools.
- Lead and coordinate the initiation and follow-up of evaluations through regular centre visits to monitor progress and support local data collection.
- Provide simple analyses and produce results/reports for internal and external customer use.
- Produce and publish clinical posters, case studies and publications that will support dissemination of findings from product evaluations, clinical studies and clinician/patient experiences including real world impact of Urgo products
Market Access and Formulary Management
- Identify potential opportunities and secure new formulary listings and access across acute and community accounts, working with internal stakeholders where relevant.
- Protect existing formulary positions and develop strategies to strengthen market access.
- Support progression of products from restricted use to preferred, first-line or pathway-enabled status where appropriate.
- Understand local commissioning structures and influence market access opportunities aligned to Urgo Medical objectives.
Medical education to shape the market and influence practice
- Successful launch and implementation of internal/external national projects at a regional level.
- Develop and coordinate regional study events associated with current business objectives.
- Support educational and commercial activities at a local and regional level by developing and delivering added value activities including bespoke study events including, part day, full day or evening.
- Assist with local/regional/national exhibitions, conferences and study events, and promote the role of the clinical specialist as a value-added service.
- Support marketing teams to ensure all promotional and educational materials are clinically credible and accurate.
Engaging KOL’s
- Engage and manage existing Key Opinion Leaders (KOL’s) and Regional Opinion Leaders (ROL) relationships with the aim of increasing level of endorsement via the ladder of adoption and increasing Net Promoter Score (NPS).
- Effectively manage potentially challenging KOL relationships/situations to ensure continued advocacy for Urgo Medical products and the UK business.
- Identify new national KOL’s, ROL’s and rising stars. Create access to digital opinion leaders.
- Support Medical Affairs within the UK business with the development of new national KOL’s and make recommendations for inclusion of individuals/organisations in clinical studies, publications and advisory boards.
- Recommend KOL’s, relevant health care practitioners and organisations to benefit from Urgo funded development opportunities e.g. study days and Urgo funded awards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration (Building the best team)
- As part of the winning team the CS will utilise clinical expertise to contribute towards the delivery of the regional business plans and work collaboratively with the Healthcare Innovation and Access Managers (HIAM’s) to win market access and new business in targeted accounts.
- Support the wider matrix team within the region to maximise selling opportunities and increase market share.
- Foster effective team relationships within the wider organisation including marketing and learning and development departments.
- Support the launch of new product ranges where appropriate providing objective, creative and clinically relevant information and content.
- Support development of initiatives and tools for internal and external customers that support product development and promotional activities.
- Support the organisations learning and development department with training regarding the Urgo Medical product portfolio. Sharing relevant clinical knowledge and expertise as required including internal events e.g. ITC and sales conferences.
- It is expected the CS will always maintain professional behaviours that promote a cohesive and supportive team environment. The CS will actively contribute to clinical team meetings and activities.
- Utilise clinical expertise to coach and support other internal clinicians in relation to clinical practice.
- Participate in the development and implementation plans for dissemination of clinical pathways and wound care formularies.

Personal Professional Development
- Complete annual appraisal, identify and communicate development needs using the local frameworks/tools.
- Maintain professional annual registration and revalidation
- Attendance at 4 clinical team meetings per annum
- Identify and secure an appropriate honorary contract within a clinical practice area to maintain clinical credibility, competence and expertise and drive business growth. To be determined 6 months following recruitment and successful completion of probation period.
- Mandatory attendance at two national sales meetings per year, occasionally requiring international travel. National sales meetings provide training and preparation for product and/or campaign launches. Overnight stays are involved during these events and on occasion for a full working week.
- Annual Mandatory attendance for successful completion of Basic life support, anaphylaxis, AED and choking training.
Planning and Administration
- Maintain accurate customer records, account plans, opportunity pipelines and activity reporting within Salesforce.
- Ensure all activity is conducted in accordance with Company policies and relevant compliance standards.
- Take ownership of continuous professional development and reflect Urgo Medical’s values and behaviours in all customer and internal interactions.
Qualifications and Attainments
- Registered Nurse or equivalent HCP with current professional clinical qualification.
- Health/science related academic degree
- Current active professional registration e.g. NMC
- Current valid UK driving licence
- Recognised qualifications in wound care practice
Work Experience
- Proven experience within a wound care environment
- Clinical and operational experience of the NHS or NHS provided healthcare
- Experience within a commercial wound care environment
