Job Introduction
Delivering Safe, Effective and Person-Centred Foot Care Services
The BSW Podiatry Service is seeking a Foot Care Assistant to support registered podiatrists in the delivery of community-based podiatry services across Swindon and surrounding care settings.
The post holder will undertake delegated clinical and non-clinical duties, including the provision of routine foot care treatments for appropriate-risk patients. The role also involves assisting podiatrists in delivering more complex interventions, including nail surgery clinics. Working within agreed competencies and under the supervision of a registered podiatrist, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care while escalating concerns appropriately.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Supporting the Delivery of Community Podiatry Services
- Undertake delegated clinical duties in accordance with local policies, procedures and competency frameworks.
- Deliver routine foot care interventions for appropriately assessed patients.
- Assist registered podiatrists in the assessment and management of patients attending podiatry clinics.
- Support the delivery of nail surgery procedures, including preparation of equipment, treatment environments and patients.
- Assist in the preparation and application of dressings under the direction of a registered podiatrist.
- Undertake post-procedure observations and report findings appropriately.
- Recognise and escalate concerns relating to infection, tissue viability, wound healing, circulation or deteriorating foot health.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control across all clinical areas.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Healthcare Support, or equivalent experience.
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
Experience
- Experience working within healthcare, social care, or community services.
- Experience providing direct patient care.
- Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work within delegated care plans and agreed clinical protocols.
- Understanding of confidentiality and information governance.
- Basic IT and record management skills.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control standards.
- Ability to recognise, report, and escalate concerns appropriately.
Personal Attributes

- Ability to work independently within defined parameters.

Desirable Criteria
Qualifications
- Care Certificate.
- Foot Care Assistant qualification or equivalent training.
- Training in aseptic technique or support of minor surgical procedures.
Experience
- Experience within a podiatry service.
- Experience supporting minor surgery clinics.
- Experience working with patients with diabetes, frailty, or long-term conditions.
Knowledge
- Understanding of foot health promotion and preventative care.
- Knowledge of diabetic foot care principles.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures.
