Overview
Waters is building the next generation of Clinical and IVD LC-MS solutions that will enable laboratories worldwide to deliver faster, more reliable and more accessible diagnostic testing.
As part of our growing Clinical Systems Development organisation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how our products perform throughout their lifecycle, from product concept and development through to deployment in customer laboratories. Working across engineering, service, manufacturing, quality and customer-facing teams, you will help define and implement strategies that improve reliability, serviceability and overall system performance.
This role is ideal for an experienced systems thinker who enjoys solving complex multidisciplinary challenges, using field and customer insights to influence product strategy, and collaborating across organisational boundaries to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives that improve the reliability, serviceability and customer experience of Waters Clinical and IVD systems, ensuring products consistently meet the needs of clinical laboratories and healthcare providers.
- Partner with multidisciplinary teams across systems engineering, hardware, software, manufacturing, quality and service functions to identify opportunities for product improvement throughout the development lifecycle.
- Analyse product performance, service and customer data to identify trends, uncover root causes and drive strategic improvements that enhance system uptime, robustness and overall customer satisfaction.
- Champion a data-driven approach to reliability engineering by developing new methods for performance monitoring, predictive analytics and system health assessment.
- Influence system architecture, product requirements and design decisions by ensuring reliability and serviceability considerations are incorporated early and effectively throughout product development activities.
- Lead investigations into complex technical issues, facilitating root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective and preventative actions.
- Communicate insights and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders, translating complex system data into clear actions that influence product strategy and business outcomes.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Master's degree or advanced technical qualification desirable but not essential.
Experience:
- Significant experience in systems engineering, product development, reliability engineering, service engineering or a related discipline involving complex technical products.
- Experience working with integrated systems comprising hardware, software, electronics, mechanics and automation technologies.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in product quality, performance, reliability or customer outcomes.
- Experience using field performance data, customer insights or service information to influence engineering decisions and product improvements.
- Experience working across engineering, quality, manufacturing and service organisations.
- Experience within diagnostics, medical devices, laboratory automation, life sciences, analytical instrumentation or other highly regulated industries would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with Clinical and IVD workflows, laboratory operations or regulated healthcare environments is desirable.
Competencies:
- Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles and structured problem-solving methodologies, including FMEA, risk assessment, fault tree analysis, root cause analysis and reliability modelling.
- Strong systems-thinking capability with the ability to understand interactions across hardware, software, workflows, users and operational environments.
- Experience analysing complex technical and operational datasets to identify trends, generate insights and influence decision making.
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualisation tools such as Python, Power BI, Minitab, R, MATLAB, Excel or equivalent platforms.
- Ability to translate technical findings, customer feedback and operational data into actionable business and engineering recommendations.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong technical leadership capability with experience leading through influence across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others and drive organisational improvement initiatives.
- Strong customer focus with an appreciation of how engineering decisions influence product adoption, serviceability and customer satisfaction.

Travel:
- Occasional international travel may be required to support customer interactions, partner collaborations, product investigations and development activities.
