Job Vacancy: Clinical Technologist - Mould Room & Brachytherapy

About the Role

The Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics, based at The James Cook University Hospital, has a vacancy for a clinical technologist specializing in mould room and brachytherapy. The successful candidate will join a team of 25 physicists and technologists working in radiotherapy physics.

Responsibilities

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of all aspects of mould room and brachytherapy support, working alongside another clinical technologist and the Chief Clinical Technologist. Responsibilities include:

  • Producing a full range of custom immobilisation and shielding devices
  • Providing brachytherapy support, including QA, theatre work, and treatment delivery
  • Managing the brachytherapy applicator library

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of the radiotherapy process
  • Aptitude for intricate manual work
  • Appetite for personal and service development
  • Degree in clinical technology, physics, therapy radiography, or equivalent
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) under a relevant professional body
  • Exceptional candidates at an earlier point in their career may be suitable for appointment at a lower band

About the Department

We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit. The department is equipped with:

  • Six Elekta linacs (three Versa HD, three Synergy with Agility MLC - all equipped with FFF technology)
  • Two Siemens wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software
  • Raystation and Monaco for treatment planning

The department is committed to delivering state-of-the-art treatment techniques and actively encourages research and development. For example, the use of 3D printing technology is under active investigation, with plans to introduce it into clinical use by the end of the year.
