Ward Sister/Charge Nurse

About the Role

Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to a busy Oncology Ward, consisting of 27 inpatient beds treating complex patients at differing stages of their cancer journey.

We treat patients in both curative and palliative stages of Cancer, deliver treatments such as Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, and manage complex symptoms resulting from treatments or disease. It is a busy ward with at least 4 elective or emergency admissions and discharges daily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support.
  • Developing and evaluating best practice within the department.
  • Deputising for the department manager and upholding the values of the Trust, being a role model.

Requirements

  • Substantial post-registration experience.
  • Competency in the administration and management of chemotherapy.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Role Expectations

  • Integral to the ward in safe care delivery and implementing change.
  • Providing clinical support to staff members, participating in supervision, mentorship, and completing appraisals.
  • Managing expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
  • Promoting and monitoring adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards and maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control at all times.
