Mercier is a streetwear clothing brand launched in October 2017, inspired by the French origin of founder Ben Mercer’s surname. The name Mercier reflects the French meaning of a dealer in textiles and fabrics.
Role Description
The Clothing Technologist will freelance 2 days per week on a contract basis in a hybrid arrangement, primarily based in Warrington with flexibility for some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and reviewing garment construction specifications, supporting fitting sessions, and advising on fabric choices to meet design, performance, and cost requirements.
The role involves monitoring quality standards, conducting garment testing and assessments, and collaborating with designers, pattern cutters, and suppliers to resolve technical issues. The Clothing Technologist will document technical details, maintain accurate records, and help ensure that products meet Mercier’s quality, fit, and durability expectations.

Qualifications
- Strong skills in Garment Construction and Fitting, with experience translating design concepts into technically sound, production-ready garments.
- Knowledge of Textiles, including fabric properties, performance characteristics, and suitability for different garment types.
- Experience in Quality Control, with the ability to evaluate samples, identify faults, and implement corrective actions.
- Effective Communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturers, and for documenting technical information clearly.
- Relevant education or training in fashion technology, garment engineering, textiles, or a related field.
- Proficiency in basic garment tech tools and software (e.g., spreadsheets, specification sheets, and measurement charts); experience with pattern or CAD systems is an advantage.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in apparel production, technical design, or clothing technology is highly beneficial.
