Azure Solutions Architect
Role type: Contract - Inside IR35- 6 months initial
Location: Hybrid working, with a minimum of 2 days per week onsite (Central London)
Programme: Azure Transition Programme: Rehost and Modernisation workstreams
Role Purpose
We are seeking a hands-on Azure Solutions Architect with a strong infrastructure background to accelerate the Azure Transition Programme. The role will support Rehost migrations from on-premises into the existing Azure Landing Zone and, more significantly, Modernisation work covering refactor, greenfield Azure solutions, platform standards and reusable building blocks.
This is a practical architecture and solution design role, not a high-level strategy role. The architect will produce clear designs, work closely with delivery teams, engage stakeholders, and support solutions through governance, including Technical Design Authority approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Azure solution design: define target architectures across networking, security, identity, compute, storage, observability, backup and restore, key management and operational support.
- Modernisation and platform standards: create repeatable Azure-native patterns for refactored and greenfield workloads, including Zero Trust-aligned controls, Customer Managed Keys, monitoring and recoverability.
- Rehost migration support: review application architectures, document target Azure designs, dependencies, risks and migration decisions, and ensure alignment with Landing Zone standards.
- Architecture artefacts and governance: produce concise design documentation, options, recommendations and decision rationale, then present and progress designs through TDA and equivalent governance forums.
- Hands-on delivery engagement: work with platform, infrastructure and engineering teams to validate designs, resolve practical implementation issues and keep architecture connected to delivery.
- Stakeholder engagement: facilitate workshops, explain trade-offs clearly and build agreement across application, infrastructure, security, operations and business stakeholders.

- Azure architecture: strong experience designing Azure enterprise solutions across IaaS and Azure-native services.
- Cloud infrastructure and networking: strong infrastructure background, ideally including Azure networking, routing, hybrid connectivity, segmentation and network security.
- Security-aware design: experience designing controls across identity, encryption, key management, network security and Zero Trust principles.
- Operational patterns: ability to define repeatable designs for observability, backup and restore, CMK, recoverability and operational support.
- Migration and modernisation: experience supporting Rehost migrations and Modernisation through refactor or greenfield Azure patterns.
- Governance and documentation: able to produce clear architecture artefacts and take designs through TDA or equivalent governance forums.
- Communication and influence: excellent stakeholder management, workshop facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus constructively.
