About the Role

The client is the fastest growing technology company in Scotland, with plans to deploy and invest over £2 billion in the coming years. You would be joining at a relatively early stage of that trajectory. For the right person, this is a chance to build something from the ground up inside a business that is scaling fast.

You will be an infrastructure generalist working across a broad range of technologies to deliver both customer and internal projects. One day you might be building out a virtualisation cluster for a customer, the next you could be troubleshooting a storage replication issue, hardening a firewall estate, or automating a build process that currently takes hours.

This is a wide role rather than a narrow one. We are looking for someone who enjoys breadth, is comfortable being the person who picks up an unfamiliar technology and works it out, and who wants to keep learning. You will be given the time, support and opportunity to develop into new areas.

Alongside business-as-usual project delivery, you will contribute to the design and build of next-generation cloud and HPC platform, the infrastructure that will underpin our AI and high-performance computing services for years to come. It is a rare chance to help shape a platform from the ground up rather than inherit someone else's.

About You

The successful candidate will be comfortable with breadth and happy to move between technologies rather than specialise. They will be curious, preferring to understand why something broke rather than just restart it, and pragmatic about automation, automating what's genuinely worth automating rather than automating for its own sake. They will also be a clear communicator, able to explain technical detail to both customers and non-technical colleagues, and capable of working independently on project delivery while knowing when to ask for input.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, building, and supporting virtualisation, compute, storage, network and backup infrastructure across our data centres
  • Delivering customer projects end to end, from scoping and design through to build, migration and handover
  • Delivering internal infrastructure projects that improve our platforms, resilience and efficiency
  • Automating repetitive build and configuration work rather than doing it by hand twice
  • Contributing to the architecture and build of future cloud and HPC platform
  • Troubleshooting complex, cross-domain issues where the cause could sit anywhere between the switch port and the application
  • Producing and maintaining clear documentation and as-built records
  • Providing escalation support to colleagues

Essential Experience

  • VMware - vSphere/ESXi in production, including cluster build and lifecycle management
  • Hyper-V - build, configuration and day-to-day operation
  • Fortinet - FortiGate firewalls and wider Fortinet product set
  • Cisco - switching and routing in a data centre or enterprise environment
  • Storage - NetApp or comparable enterprise storage platforms (SAN/NAS, replication, snapshots)
  • Scripting and automation — strong practical ability in at least one of: PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible or Terraform
  • Backup - Cohesity or comparable enterprise backup and recovery software
  • Server estates – HPE/Dell/Cisco/Lenovo hardware management.
  • Observability — hands-on experience across the monitoring stack:
    • Metrics collection (Zabbix, Prometheus, Nagios or similar)
    • Log collection and aggregation (Graylog, Loki, Logstash or similar)
    • Visualisation and dashboarding (Grafana, Kibana or similar)
  • Working with technologies you have never seen before — a track record of being handed something unfamiliar and getting to a working result: reading the documentation, building a lab, testing your assumptions and asking the right questions. This is a core part of the job, not a nice-to-have

We don't expect you to be an expert in all of the above. What matters is that you're genuinely hands-on across most of it, and comfortable working in a live production environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Cisco ACI
  • Working with agentic AI tooling (Claude Code, Codex or similar) as part of day-to-day engineering
  • OpenStack or other KVM-based hypervisor platforms
  • Kubernetes on-premises
  • CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code workflows
  • GitOps and continuous delivery tooling (Argo CD, Flux or similar)
  • GPU and HPC infrastructure, including high-density and liquid-cooled environments

If you tick a lot of the desirable list but only some of the essential, apply anyway. That's where our platform is heading, and we'd rather hire for that strength and fill gaps than the reverse. Tell us in your application what you have and what you'd need to pick up.

Benefits

  • 33 days annual leave
  • Pension: 5% employee, 5% employer
