I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We Will Be Looking For at Interview
We will want candidates to talk through what they personally built and configured, rather than only describing what their team delivered.
They should be able to explain things such as:
- How they would take an Azure solution from HLD into LLD and build
- How they would structure Terraform and environments
- How they would design the network and security layers
- How Azure Front Door would be configured for resilience / failover
- How they would secure identities, secrets and service-to-service access
- How they would approach CI/CD and controlled deployment
- How they would monitor and troubleshoot the platform
- How they would sequence the build and identify dependencies
- What they would expect to deliver in their first 30 days

The role suits a strong Azure/DevOps engineer who can design at detailed level and then actually build it.
Please avoid sending candidates whose experience is predominantly:
- High-level architecture only
- Governance / advisory
- Project management
- Heavily reliant on separate network or security teams for the technical detail
For context, the current solution direction includes Azure Front Door Premium, Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Firewall, Managed Identities, Key Vault, Terraform and Azure DevOps.
