Closing Date: Sun, 9 Aug 2026
As a Cloud Engineer, you'll help shape, deliver and continuously improve the Azure services that support our members, colleagues and business teams every day. This is a hands-on role where your engineering skills will directly contribute to secure, reliable and scalable cloud platforms.
You'll work with modern cloud delivery practices, including Infrastructure-as-Code, automation and CI/CD, to make change more repeatable, controlled and sustainable. You'll also play an important part in keeping live services healthy through monitoring, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
We're also adopting AI responsibly as part of our engineering toolkit, so this is a great opportunity for someone who's curious about using tools such as Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot or similar technologies to improve efficiency, documentation and problem solving, while working within clear governance and security standards.
At Skipton, we're founded on fairness. We exist to do right by our members - and we believe that starts with doing right by our people. So whoever you are and whatever you bring, there's a place for you here and a genuine plan for where you go next.
What You’ll Do
Every day at Skipton is innovation day. Join our Technology team and you’ll discover that we’re constantly focused on real challenges as we build the tools that get things done for our members - quicker than you imagine.
Within our Technology team, you'll help design, build and operate Azure-based services that are secure, resilient and easy to support. You'll work closely with colleagues across engineering, service and delivery teams to improve cloud platform reliability, automate routine activity and support better outcomes for our members.
- Design, deliver and automate Azure-based solutions in line with platform standards, security requirements and service reliability expectations.
- Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform, reusable modules, source control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor service health, respond to alerts, troubleshoot incidents and contribute to root cause analysis and ongoing service improvement.
- Improve observability across Azure services through effective logging, monitoring, alerting and operational dashboards.
- Support the migration of existing systems to Azure and the deployment of new cloud-based services using repeatable, well-documented approaches.
- Identify opportunities to automate routine tasks, reduce manual effort and improve the reliability, security, scalability and cost efficiency of cloud platform operations.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to support scripting, troubleshooting, documentation and knowledge discovery, validating outputs against organisational standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
