About The Company
Lightfoot is a forward-thinking technology company dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that empower businesses to harness the power of data and cloud computing. With a focus on excellence, agility, and customer-centricity, Lightfoot specializes in developing scalable, efficient, and secure digital infrastructures. Our team comprises passionate professionals committed to pushing the boundaries of technology to solve complex challenges across various industries. We foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning, creativity, and impactful contributions, ensuring our clients receive top-tier services and solutions.
About The Role
We are looking for a skilled AWS Cloud & Python Engineer to join our team, bridging the gap between application development and cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of data transformation applications - writing clean, efficient Python code and designing the AWS infrastructure required to run it seamlessly.
Working closely with our existing cloud engineers, you will focus on building, modernising, and deploying scalable data processing applications. The ideal candidate thrives on end-to-end ownership, using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to deploy cost-effective, high-performance AWS architectures that handle large-scale data efficiently.
If you are passionate about solving complex problems and eager to leverage the latest AWS technologies, we would love to hear from you!
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Location: This role offers the flexibility to be performed either remotely or on a hybrid basis from our Head Office in Exeter. For candidates who are not based locally to Exeter, we are ideally seeking attendance at the office every two to three weeks to support team meetings, collaboration, and relationship building. Ideally, this would involve two days in the office during each visit.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a strong technical background with proven experience in cloud engineering and software development. Relevant qualifications include a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Developer are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience with Python programming, AWS cloud services, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform. A solid understanding of containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like AWS ECS is essential. Familiarity with data processing, ETL strategies, and high-volume data streams is also important. Additionally, experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring tools will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Application & Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient Python applications for real-time telematics and large-scale data transformation.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Provision, manage, and scale secure AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
- Cost & Performance Optimisation: Architect solutions with a strong focus on cost-efficiency, low latency, and high throughput without compromising reliability.

- CI/CD & Automation: Implement and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, build processes, and cloud deployments.
- Monitoring & Operations: Set up performance monitoring and logging using AWS CloudWatch and X-Ray to ensure high availability and quick issue resolution.
