About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer to join BAE Systems Digital Intelligence’s dynamic team in Gloucester. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex cloud-native architectures, leveraging the latest AWS services and infrastructure automation tools. The successful candidate will play a vital role in designing, deploying, and managing scalable and secure cloud solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, security specialists, and project managers, to deliver high-quality cloud infrastructure and support innovative projects. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cloud engineering, with demonstrated experience in AWS and infrastructure automation. Relevant qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in a range of AWS services, with a keen interest in staying updated on new releases and features.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and their application within cloud environments, including software-defined networking (SDN).
  • Hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, ECS, or OpenShift.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go for automation and development tasks.
  • Relevant certifications in AWS are desirable but not mandatory; training and certification opportunities are available through the company.

Responsibilities

The Cloud Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks centered around designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native architectures aligned with best practices.
  • Utilizing Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CDK to automate resource deployment and management.
  • Creating and managing infrastructure components, ensuring they are optimized for performance and security.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective cloud solutions.
  • Developing standard implementation patterns and reusable modules to streamline project delivery.
  • Managing configuration and deployment processes, maintaining source repositories, and ensuring consistency across environments.
  • Leveraging AWS security features and implementing security best practices in collaboration with developers and security teams.
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior team members or project teams, especially for senior-level roles.
