Role Overview:
We are looking for a motivated Cloud Engineer to join our Defence and Security team. In this role, you will support the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of secure Oracle Cloud infrastructure environments. Working within our experienced cloud and DevOps team, you will contribute to designing resilient and scalable cloud solutions that support mission-critical national security systems. This role offers training in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and related technologies. This is a Bristol-based role which will involve hybrid working and occasional traveling to our clients' sites.
Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure Support: Assist in the deployment, configuration, and management of Oracle Cloud resources, including compute, storage, and networking components
- Automation and Scripting: Write and maintain infrastructure-as-code scripts using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or shell scripting
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor system performance, identify issues, and assist in the resolution of cloud infrastructure incidents
- Security and Compliance: Support the implementation of cloud security best practices and compliance with government regulations and standards
- Backup and Recovery: Help implement backup strategies and disaster recovery solutions to ensure service continuity
- Collaboration: Work closely with DevOps, security, and software development teams to support continuous integration and deployment pipelines
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of cloud environments, configurations, and procedures
- Learning and Development: Stay current with Oracle Cloud services, tools, and best practices through continuous learning and on-the-job experience

About the candidate:
- Experience: Approximately 2-6 years' experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, platform engineering, systems administration, DevOps, or related technical roles
- Cloud Technologies: Practical experience working with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Prior OCI experience is beneficial but not essential, as training will be provided
- Infrastructure & Networking: Good understanding of core infrastructure concepts including networking, virtual machines, operating systems, identity and access management, storage, and security principles
- Automation & Scripting: Experience using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell, and exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies
- DevOps Tooling: Familiarity with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices. Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, containers, or Kubernetes would be advantageous
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate technical issues and identify practical solutions
- Communication: Able to communicate technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaboration: A team player who takes ownership of their work, contributes positively to project delivery, and is keen to learn from experienced colleagues
- Qualifications: Degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience and professional certifications
- Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance
