Cloud Operations Technical Lead
The Cloud Operations Technical Lead is responsible for leading the team charged with building, supporting, and maintaining the Enterprise IT automation toolkit, supporting services, and other processes used within our CI/CD, DevOps, and Infrastructure as Code managed environments. The responsibilities of the cloud operations team is to support the management, configuration, and system and service lifecycle of all virtual machines, containerized environments, cloud compute and storage, all database environments, and support for business AI, business intelligence, and data engineering services. These tools also support the software development operations across several additional departments. The position reports directly to the Cloud Operations and Engineering group manager, which is part of the Enterprise IT Infrastructure service line.
Job Description
Technical Lead
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Automation and Platform Services team staff
- Oversee all work done by the team including being accountable for quality and timeliness of delivery
- Plan and schedule the team resources
- Perform hiring and staff onboarding
- Support staff professional development and training
- Conduct formalized annual as well as ongoing performance reviews and goal settings with staff
- Motivate staff to meet goals set by strategic initiatives as well as normal workload
- Insure employees are adhering to institutional policies, taking appropriate action, verbal and written to improve employee performance
- Provide input into merit-based salary adjustments
Automation Services
- Develop and administer the automation and platform services environments hosting mission critical, high availability enterprise applications and web hosting
- Configuration management and workflow
- Develop and maintain procedures for system management and software deployment tasks as well as providing input into implementing continuous improvement of such practices and processes
- Consult with developers, application, and system administrators in planning needs
- Develop automation for system and application maintenance, configuration, performance monitoring, and security testing
- Document all processes, procedures, and services
- Maintain system monitoring of performance, availability, and scalability
Platform Services
- Provide integration services for private and public cloud hosting platforms.
- Provide support for issues that arise with hosting, application hosting, and server applications
- Develop DevOps, CI/CD, and Configuration Management processes
- Develop and service deployment pipelines, in collaboration with development staff, application Administration staff, system administration staff
- Follow all established incident and problem management practices.

Continuous Improvement
- Research and technically assess new web application, development operations, and continuous integration technologies for service development, support, and process improvement.
General IT Support
- Provide morning, evening, and weekend coverage for time critical events, addressing production issues, or other changes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in information technology field, Associate’s and four years, or combination of education and experience equal to six years
- Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) system administration
- Apache Tomcat or similar experience
- Familiarity working in VMware virtualization environments, Azure, AWS, and other relevant public cloud hosting environment
- Scripting with common script and development languages (Python, PHP, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
- Application/System performance tuning, troubleshooting and monitoring
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies on a near constant basis
- Development Operations (DevOps) experience
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) experience
- Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Docker Engine, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience with configuration management tools (Salt, Puppet, Systems Center Configuration Manager)
- Experience with Application Programing Interface (API)
- Experience, exposure, or knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering and its practices
- Documentation and knowledge sharing abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of Drupal CMS development (internals, themes, modules etc)
- Understanding of TCP/IP Networking, Virtualization (VMWare) and system hardware.
- Understanding of other database systems (Oracle, SQL Server)
- Knowledge of system and application security threats and countermeasures
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization via LDAP or Active Directory
- Familiarity with ITIL/IT Service Management practices
- Customer focused and able to present a positive outlook within the team and to end customers
- Highly self-motivated yet works well within a team
- Highly accountable and works well within a project-driven organization
- Result and detail-oriented and ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects

Compensation Pay Range:
$69,560.00 - $124,580.00
