About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Cloud Security Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team at Starling Bank. In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting security tooling and infrastructure across AWS and GCP. Your work will ensure our internal operations are secure, scalable, and resilient, enabling our engineering teams to deliver new features rapidly without compromising security. This hands-on position requires a developer-minded security professional who believes that robust security is built into the system from the ground up. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to embed security best practices into our development lifecycle, automate security processes, and proactively identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cloud security and software engineering, with demonstrated expertise in designing secure, distributed systems. You should have extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly Terraform, and be proficient in programming languages such as Golang. A deep understanding of cryptographic primitives, container security, and service mesh security within ECS and Kubernetes environments is essential. Candidates must have a proven track record of taking end-to-end ownership of complex projects, from initial design to deployment and monitoring. Strong analytical skills, a test-first mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment are critical. Knowledge of API-driven PKI management, automated certificate workflows, and security automation will be highly advantageous.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
