Cloud SRE for Azure Infrastructure
We are looking to hire a Cloud SRE to help with our client's Azure infrastructure estate by contributing to discovery, planning, and supporting activities, including virtual machines, monitoring tools, networking, storage, and databases.
Day to day, you will monitor service health, resolve incidents, execute controlled changes, maintain patching and hardening standards, and improve reliability through automation, observability, and clear operational documentation.
This is a 6-month contract, to work remotely (outside IR35)
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure discovery and assessment - Build and maintain an inventory of servers, applications, and configurations.
- Change execution - Plan and execute changes, including applications deployments, configurations changes, and validation.
- Incident response - Investigate and resolve complex cross-platform incidents; lead root-cause analysis and drive permanent fixes.
- Automation & AIOps - Automate repetitive operational tasks and remediation (PowerShell, Bash, Python) and contribute to AIOps and self-healing to detect and resolve issues earlier.
- Cloud administration - Administer compute, storage, and OS-layer services in Azure; support application infrastructure.
- Observability & monitoring - Implement and tune monitoring, alerting, and dashboards; improve signal quality and reduce noise.
- Security & compliance - Apply hardening, patching, and access controls in line with PCI DSS and Planet security standards.
- Infrastructure-as-code - Contribute to IaC (Terraform) and configuration management to deliver consistent, repeatable environments.
- Documentation & mentoring - Create and maintain runbooks and SOPs; mentor junior engineers and uplift team capability.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure infrastructure experience.
- Proven experience supporting workloads from VMware/ESX or private cloud environments to Azure.
- Strong Windows Server administration experience, including legacy versions such as Windows Server 2008/2012 and modern versions such as 2016/2019/2022.
- Strong understanding of Active Directory, DNS, certificates, service accounts, GPOs, IIS, and Windows operational dependencies.
- Good SQL Server infrastructure knowledge, including connectivity, backup, HA/DR concepts, performance considerations, and support readiness.
- Strong PowerShell scripting experience.
- Experience with Terraform and/or Azure Bicep.
- Experience with Azure networking, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, routing, private connectivity, and workload segmentation.
- Experience with Azure VMs, storage, backup, recovery, monitoring, and identity/access controls.
- Experience working in ITSM/change-controlled environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, network, OS, database connectivity, and application hosting layers.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation, runbooks, operational checklists, and handover material.
