๐Ÿ“ Berkshire ๐ŸŽ๏ธ Low-Volume | High-Value Automotive Engineering ๐Ÿ’ผ Permanent | Full-Time

Do you have a passion for colour, materials, finishes and beautifully engineered products? Would you like to see your CMF decisions taken from concept and samples through to the finished physical product? Iโ€™m supporting a highly regarded bespoke automotive engineering business in the recruitment of a CMF Engineer.

Iโ€™m in my final year doing Economics and I donโ€™t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer โ€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโ€™t need a masters. Letโ€™s look at the ones youโ€™d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right โ€” and where to focus when applying.

You'll support CMF delivery across interior, exterior and individual component applications โ€“ taking high-level design direction and translating it into practical specifications, samples, material selections and production-ready solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Translate CMF direction into practical specifications, material palettes, sample boards and production standards.
  • Source and develop colours, materials and finishes alongside specialist suppliers.
  • Work with Design and Engineering to balance aesthetic intent with quality, functionality and manufacturability.
  • Support client specification discussions, presenting options and helping turn individual ideas into achievable solutions.
  • Review samples and first-off components, working with production teams to ensure the finished product delivers the intended quality.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience within CMF, materials, product design, interiors or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of physical materials, colours, textures and surface finishes with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working directly with suppliers, designers, engineers, production teams and clients.
  • Commercial understanding of cost, lead times and manufacturability within a low-volume environment.
  • Passion for premium products, craftsmanship and creating exceptional physical products.

Experience with leather, textiles, paints, coatings, metals, trim or specialist surface finishes would be particularly relevant. Candidates could come from automotive, luxury products, aviation, marine, furniture, fashion or other highly tactile design-led industries.

Why Consider It?

This isn't a role where your work disappears into a CAD model or presentation.

You'll be hands-on with materials, samples, components and finished products, working closely with the people physically creating them.

You'll join a passionate, collaborative team working on genuinely exceptional, individually specified products where colour, material, finish and craftsmanship are fundamental to the customer experience.
