CNC Controls Field Service Engineer
Midlands & North West England | Home-Based / Field-Based
Are you an experienced CNC, Machine Tool or Controls Engineer looking for a field-based role where you'll work with everything from established legacy systems through to the latest CNC and industrial automation technology?
We're supporting a leading global engineering and industrial technology business looking to strengthen its UK Machine Tool Systems team with an experienced Field Service Engineer.
This is a home-based position supporting customers across the UK and Ireland, with regular travel to manufacturing sites. Due to the location of many key customers, candidates based across the Midlands, North West or Yorkshire would be particularly well placed.
The Role
You'll provide hands-on technical support to machine tool customers, diagnosing breakdowns and resolving complex electrical, CNC, drive and control-system faults.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Attending customer sites across the UK and Ireland to diagnose and resolve machine tool breakdowns
- Fault-finding CNC control, PLC and drive systems
- Interpreting electrical control schematics and diagnosing electrical faults
- Supporting both legacy equipment and modern CNC/automation technology
- Working with customers and internal engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues
- Building strong relationships with customers and providing high-quality technical support
- Developing your knowledge of emerging automation, connectivity and industrial digitalisation technologies
- Participating in a 24/7 standby rota supporting key contract customers

What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in engineers with hands-on experience of:
- CNC machine tools and associated control systems
- SINUMERIK CNC controls, including systems such as 840D, 828D and/or newer platforms
- SINAMICS and/or SIMODRIVE drive systems
- PLC diagnostics and fault-finding using TIA Portal and/or Simatic Manager
- Reading and interpreting electrical control schematics
- Electrical/electronic fault-finding within industrial or manufacturing environments
An HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering would be advantageous, although equivalent practical engineering experience will also be considered.
Previous Field Service experience would be beneficial but isn't essential. We would also be interested in hearing from experienced CNC Controls, Machine Tool, Maintenance, Commissioning or Automation Engineers who have the technical background and would like to move into a customer-facing field role.

Knowledge of machine tool mechanical or hydraulic systems would also be advantageous.
You'll need to be comfortable travelling regularly throughout the UK and occasionally Ireland, as well as participating in an out-of-hours standby rota.
