NC Setter/Operator (Fanuc Controls)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator with experience operating CNC machinery equipped with Fanuc controls. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading programs, setting offsets, monitoring machining operations, inspecting components, and ensuring parts are produced to specification while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC lathes and/or machining centres using Fanuc control systems.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Load and call up CNC programs and set work offsets and tool offsets.
  • Perform tool changes and monitor tool wear during production runs.
  • Conduct first-off, in-process, and final inspections using measuring equipment.
  • Adjust machine parameters and offsets to maintain component quality.
  • Identify and troubleshoot machining issues and report any machine faults.
  • Maintain production records, inspection reports, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards and health & safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area following 5S principles.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience operating CNC machines with Fanuc controls.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and GD&T symbols.
  • Experience using measuring equipment including:
    • Verniers
    • Micrometers
    • Bore gauges
    • Height gauges
  • Understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, feeds, and speeds.
  • Ability to adjust tool and work offsets to maintain tolerances.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of sliding heads.

  • Engineering apprenticeship or relevant manufacturing qualification.
  • Experience with CNC milling, turning, or multi-axis machining.
  • Basic CNC programming and editing knowledge using Fanuc controls.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and lean manufacturing principles.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Produce parts within specified tolerances.
  • Meet production targets and delivery schedules.
  • Minimise scrap and rework.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping, and safety.

Typical Fanuc Tasks:

  • Setting tool offsets (Geometry/Wear)
  • Setting work offsets (G54-G59)
  • Loading and editing programs
  • Tool life monitoring
  • Running production batches
  • First-off inspection and quality checks
