CNC Machinist (x2)

Location: Sandiacre, NG10 5AN

Salary: Up to £40,440 DOE (including shift allowance) Contract Type: P permanently


Shift Patterns

Various shifts available, including:

3 Shifts:

  • Days: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 – 13:40 & Friday 06:00 – 13:00
  • Afters: Monday to Thursday, 13:35 – 21:15 & Friday 12:55 – 19:55
  • Nights: Monday to Thursday, 21:00 – 06:00

Continental:

  • Sunday to Tuesday:
    • 06:00 – 18:00
    • 18:00 – 06:00
  • Wednesday to Friday:
    • 06:00 – 18:00
    • 18:00 – 06:00

About the Role

Progress Rail is recruiting 2 CNC Machinists to operate CNC Milling Machines, producing machined rail components safely, efficiently, and to the required quality and timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the correct rail grade is used per cutting sheets (training provided).
  • Follow route card instructions and demonstrate competency in reading engineering drawings.
  • Comply with safety legislation and meet company procedures (ISO 9001):
    • Wearing correct PPE
    • Housekeeping standards
    • Reporting accidents and "near misses"
  • Load/unload rails to machine:
    • Using internal cranes, sideloaders, or tandem lifting.
    • Operate Grinders, Belt Sanders, and other power tools alongside Templates and Probing cycles.
  • Manage programming tasks: Load, backup, and edit programs.
  • Train new operatives when required.
  • Maintain and improve quality standards.
  • Communicate via logbook at shift changeovers.

Requirements & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably medium to heavy industry.
  • CNC Milling experience, including programming skills.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Awareness of safety legislation and quality procedures (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Attention to detail and strong work ethic.
