Skilled CNC Operator

Part of: Waukesha Bearings, Dover Precision Components

You will join a fully integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing facility at Waukesha Bearings, a division of Dover Precision Components. Here, we utilise CNC machining centres for turning, milling, and grinding operations to produce custom designs from materials such as steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze.

Our facility boasts a broad range of multi-axis machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and associated equipment, supporting a high-mix of customised fluid-film bearings, seals, and isolators. These products are primarily used in turbo and industrial machinery and are supplied to customers across Europe and worldwide.


Annual Salary & Contract Details

  • 37-hour working week, Monday to Friday
  • Permanent employment contracts

Shift Pay Rates (Annual, inclusive of shift premium):

  • £44,919.62 – For weekly rotating shifts (early shift: 6am; backshift: 2pm)
  • £52,452.37 – For night shift (additional shift premium)

What You Will Bring

  • A time-served apprenticeship in machining, or SVQ/NQ Level 3 or an HNC in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating CNC machine tools in a lean-manufacturing environment
  • Established experience in either:
    • Milling
    • Grinding
    • Turning Using multi-axis machine tools, ideally with Correa or Doosan, or similar brands
  • Experience of machine control systems, such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain, or Haas
  • Proven ability to hold tight machining tolerances of less than 0.0025mm
  • Operational experience with precision inspection equipment, including:
    • Micrometres
    • Callipers
    • Height gauges
    • Bore gauges
  • Ideally, experience in the power generation, oil & gas, or aerospace industries (or a similar environment)

What You Will Do

  • Read process sheets, blueprints, and technical drawings to determine machining requirements, dimensional specifications, setup needs, and operating protocols
  • Locate and download programs from a DNC (Direct Numerical Control) storage system
  • Interpret work instructions, identify, select, and install the appropriate tooling for each operation
  • Calculate proper feeds and speeds for machining steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze
  • Write, read, understand, or edit complete machining programs
  • Intuitively assess tooling and machinery capabilities
  • Understand and adhere to applicable quality systems while performing necessary quality inspections
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity
  • Perform visual inspections of final components
  • Box parts for shipment, including cleaning, oiling, wrapping, and boxing final products
  • Undertake cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing, and aligning to ensure smooth movement and mechanical operational requirements
  • Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometres, callipers) and gauging devices to conduct dimensional verification and inspection procedures
  • Properly identify components post-assembly/manufacture
