Role Description
The CNC Maintenance Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Northampton. The engineer will perform routine and preventive maintenance on CNC machine tools, including mechanical, electrical, and control system checks, to reduce breakdowns and optimize performance. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and component replacements, and supporting retrofits and upgrades such as control system enhancements and motor changes. The role involves responding to urgent maintenance requests, documenting service work, and maintaining accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and machine performance. The engineer will also collaborate closely with customers’ technical teams, provide basic training and guidance on best maintenance practices, and ensure work is completed in line with safety, quality, and OEM standards.

- Candidates should possess strong CNC machine tool maintenance skills, including mechanical troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and familiarity with control systems.
- Candidates should possess skills in fault finding, use of diagnostic tools, and interpreting technical documentation, schematics, and service manuals.
- Candidates should possess competencies in preventive maintenance planning, record-keeping, and using maintenance logs or CMMS tools.
- Candidates should possess effective communication and customer service skills to explain technical issues clearly and collaborate with on-site teams.
- Candidates should possess adherence to health and safety practices, including safe working procedures around electrical systems and rotating machinery.
- Relevant qualifications such as an NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, are beneficial.
- Experience working with CNC machinery, machine tool OEMs, or precision engineering environments is highly advantageous.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to work on-site at customer facilities in Northampton and nearby areas are beneficial.
