About the Role
Contek Recruitment are currently representing their client, a small and established precision engineering business based in Stanford-le-Hope, who are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller to join their close-knit team.
The company manufactures a varied range of subcontract components for a broad customer base, covering sectors from building and structural engineering through to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
This is a varied role suited to a CNC Miller who enjoys working across different components and materials rather than producing the same parts every day. Work will range from small batch components through to longer production runs.

- Ideally working with Siemens ShopMill controls, although other control systems will be considered
- Working from engineering drawings to produce precision components
- Setting machines and selecting appropriate tooling
- Editing and proving CNC programmes where required
- Producing both small-batch and longer-run components
- Carrying out in-process inspection and maintaining required quality standards
- Working to tight tolerances and maintaining a high standard of workmanship
- Supporting the wider team within a small, hands-on manufacturing environment

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
