Skilled CNC Operator

Location: Waukesha Bearings (part of Dover Precision Components)

About the Role

Working at Waukesha Bearings, you’ll be part of a fully integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) facility, utilising CNC machining centres for turning, milling, and grinding operations to produce customised designs from a variety of materials including steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze.

The facility operates a high-mix production of customised fluid-film bearings, seals, and isolators, supplying customers across Europe and internationally. These components are critical for turbo and industrial machinery applications.

Employment Details

  • Hours: 37-hour weekly work week (Monday to Friday)
  • Contract type: Permanent employment
  • Salary options:
    • £44,919.62 (annual) for a weekly rotating shift pattern (early shifts starting at 6am and backshifts at 2pm)
    • £52,452.37 (annual) for night shift work These rates include a shift premium.

What You Will Bring (Requirements)

  • Qualification:

    • Time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline OR
    • SVQ/NVQ Level 3 or HNC in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience:

    • At least 5 years’ experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean-manufacturing work environment
    • Experience in milling, grinding, or turning, including multi-axis machine tools (ideally Correa or Doosan understands)
    • Proficiency with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain, or Haas
    • Ability to hold tight machining tolerances (less than .0025mm)
    • Experience using precision inspection equipment, including:
      • Micrometres
      • Callipers
      • Height gauges
      • Bore gauges
    • Preferred:Experience within the power generation, oil & gas, or aerospace industries

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

  • Analyse process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine:

    • Machining requirements
    • Dimensional specifications
    • Setup and operating procedures
  • Locate and download programs from a DNC (Direct Numerical Control) storage system.

  • Interpret work instructions and perform:

    • Selection and installation of appropriate tooling
    • Calculations of optimal feeds and speeds for various materials (e.g., steel, copper, aluminium)
  • Write, edit, read, and execute complete machine programs

  • Apply lean-manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and enhance productivity

  • Inspect finished components, including:

    • Visually checking for quality
    • Performing dimensional verification with precision measuring instruments
  • Prepare parts for shipment by:

    • Cleaning, oiling, wrapping, and boxing components
    • Ensuring parts meet operational requirements
  • Perform secondary operations like filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing, and aligning to guarantee free movement of parts
