Skilled CNC Operator – Waukesha Bearings
Working for Waukesha Bearings, a part of Dover Precision Components, as a Skilled CNC Operator, you will join a fully integrated Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) facility. The role involves operating CNC machining centres for turning, milling, and grinding operations to produce custom designs from materials including steel, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze.
The facility houses a variety of multi-axis machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and auxiliary equipment, handling a high-mix, customised production of fluid-film bearings, seals, and isolators. These components primarily serve turbo and industrial machinery, catering to customers across Europe and beyond.
About the Role
- Permanent Employment Contract
- 37-hour working week (Monday to Friday)
- Shift patterns available:
- Backshift (2pm) and early shift (6am rotations): £44,919.62/year (shift premium included)
- Night shift: £52,452.37/year (shift premium included)

What You Will Bring
You will be an experienced professional with:
- A Time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline or SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or an HNC in a relevant field.
- At least 5 years’ experience operating CNC machine tools in a lean-manufacturing environment.
- Established experience in milling, grinding, or turning using multi-axis machine tools, ideally with expertise in Correa and/or Doosan or similar brands.
- Experience working with CNC control systems, such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain, or Haas.
- A proven ability to hold strict machining tolerances of less than 0.0025mm.
- Familiarity with precision inspection equipment, including (but not limited to):
- Micrometres
- Callipers
- Height gauges
- Bore gauges
- Preference for candidates with experience in power generation, oil & gas, or aerospace industries.

What You Will Do
The Skilled CNC Operator role requires you to:
Technical Operations
-
Read and interpret process sheets, blueprints, and design sketches to identify machining requirements, dimensional specifications, setup protocols, and operating procedures.

Locate and download machine programs from a Direct Numerical Control (DNC) storage system.

Interpret work orders and instructions, then:
- Select and install appropriate tooling and fixtures.
- Calculate optimal feeds and speeds for various materials, including steel grades, copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze.
- Edit or write complete machining programs as needed.

Understand the capabilities of tooling and machine performance to maximise efficiency.
Quality and Process Compliance

Follow and uphold applicable quality systems, ensuring quality control procedures are adhered to during production.

Perform dimple inspections by measuring and verifying dimensions to tight tolerances.

Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve operational productivity.
Final Inspection and Box Preparation

Visually and dimensionally inspect finished components to ensure they meet acceptance criteria.

Prepare components for shipment by:
- cleaning, oiling;
- wrapping;
- boxing for secure delivery.
Miscellaneous Refinement Tasks
- Perform precision tasks, such as cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing, and aligning** to guarantee the free movement of component parts.
