CNC 5-Axis Programmer / Setter / Operator
Location: Pontypool
Salary: £42,000 - £46,000 per annum - Depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time | Permanent
An exceptional opportunity for an experienced CNC 5-Axis Specialist
Our client is a leading precision engineering manufacturer, producing complex, high-tolerance components for demanding industries. They are looking to recruit an experienced CNC 5-Axis Programmer, Setter and Operator who can take complete ownership of the machining process from offline programming through to production optimisation.
This is not an entry-level programming role. We are seeking a highly skilled engineer with extensive experience in complex 5-axis machining who can confidently work independently and deliver right-first-time results.
The Role
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:
- Programming complex 5-axis CNC machining centres using CAM software
- Creating and optimising efficient machining strategies
- Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T
- Selecting cutting tools, workholding and machining parameters
- Generating collision-free toolpaths and machine simulations
- Editing and optimising G-code where required
- Setting and proving out new jobs
- Configuring machines for simultaneous 5-axis and 3+2 positional machining
- Producing high-precision components to tight tolerances
- Carrying out first-off inspections and quality checks
- Troubleshooting machining issues and implementing process improvements
- Supporting continuous improvement, cycle time reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives

What We're Looking For
To be considered, you must have:
- Significant experience programming, setting and operating 5-axis CNC machining centres
- Advanced CAM programming experience
- Strong understanding of multi-axis machining strategies
- Excellent knowledge of tooling technologies and cutting parameters
- Experience machining a wide range of materials
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience producing high-precision, tight tolerance components
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Desirable Experience
Experience within aerospace, motorsport, defence, medical or other high-precision engineering environments would be highly advantageous.
