About the Role

Contek are recruiting for an established precision engineering specialist recognized for delivering high-specification components across heavy engineering sectors. They are looking for an experienced and talented CNC Vertical Borer to join our dedicated machine shop team.

In this role, you will work on large, high-value, high-precision components, ensuring every part meets exacting customer standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set, Operate, and Program: Program, Set up and operate CNC Vertical Boring machines safely and efficiently (programming/editing capability is highly desirable).
  • Precision Machining: Machine complex, large-diameter components to tight tolerances from technical drawings.
  • Quality Control: Perform self-inspection of completed parts using standard measuring equipment (bore gauges, micrometers, height gauges, and verniers).
  • Tooling & Setup: Select appropriate tooling, feeds, and speeds optimized for heavy engineering materials.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Adhere to clean workshop standards, perform routine maintenance checks, and follow strict Health & Safety protocols.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Proven background as a CNC Machinist with specific hands-on experience setting and operating Vertical Boring machines.
  • Qualifications: Time-served/Apprentice-trained machinist or relevant NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Control Systems: Experience working with Fanuc, Siemens, or similar CNC control systems.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience machining components for the hydraulics, heavy plant, marine, or energy sectors is a major advantage.
  • Mindset: A strong eye for detail, a pride in precision work, and a practical, proactive problem-solving attitude.
