Location: Derbyshire Healthcare United and Community with an expectation to attend Rainbows Hospice as required
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including participation in a 7-day on-call rota

We provide specialist palliative and end of life care to more than 750 babies, children and young people with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions across the East Midlands. Our support extends to parents, carers and siblings, helping families navigate some of life's most challenging moments.
We're looking for an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist
To join our Specialist Palliative Care Team, providing expert clinical leadership and specialist support across Derbyshire.
About The Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a key role in coordinating and delivering specialist palliative and end of life care for babies, children and young people with complex needs. Working across hospital, hospice and community settings, you will ensure families receive seamless, holistic support in the place that is right for them, whether at home, in hospital or at Rainbows Hospice.
You will be a specialist resource for multidisciplinary teams, influencing palliative care practice, symptom management and service development across Derbyshire, while supporting education, training and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessments, advice and support to babies, children, young people and their families with complex palliative care needs.
- Coordinate care across hospital, hospice and community settings to ensure continuity and excellence of care.
- Support children identified as being in the last year of life and facilitate Advance Care Planning.
- Act as an advocate for children, young people and their families, ensuring their wishes remain central to decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals across multiple organisations and disciplines.
- Lead and contribute to complex clinical and ethical decision-making.
- Deliver education and training to healthcare professionals, students and partner organisations.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Champion Rainbows' values in every setting and interaction.
About You
You'll be a highly motivated and experienced children's nurse who is passionate about delivering outstanding palliative care.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Children's Nurse.
- Degree level qualification or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuing professional development within the last 12 months.
- Significant experience working with babies, children and young people with complex needs and palliative care requirements.
- Experience assessing and managing complex symptoms.
- Experience developing and delivering education and training.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and use sound clinical judgement.
- Excellent organisational, planning and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient IT skills.
- Understanding of current developments within the NHS and hospice sector and their impact on service delivery and quality care.
