Wiltshire Council - Audit and Governance Committee Member
Annual remuneration: An allowance of £2,499 per annum is provided, and travel expenses may be claimed.
Hours: Attend a number of Committee meetings per year and occasional training sessions with the Committee, with an approximate estimate of one working day every two months on average.
Start date: December 2026
Wiltshire Council is looking to appoint an independent co-opted member to the Audit and Governance Committee.
This important role will be crucial in providing independent, expert advice and assistance to the Committee in discharging its duty. This role will help to scrutinise the financial work of the Council and give elected Members support to do the same.
Purpose of the Audit and Governance Committee
The purpose of the Audit and Governance Committee is to provide to those charged with governance independent assurance on the adequacy of the risk management framework, the internal control environment and the integrity of the financial reporting and governance processes. By overseeing both internal and external audit it makes an important contribution to ensuring that effective assurance arrangements are in place.

Skills and Experience
Skills may vary, but we are looking for someone with a high level of understanding of finance, accounts or audit, preferably in a public sector environment.
Ideally the applicant would have experience in one (or more) of the following areas:
- Finance, accounts or audit at a senior level, preferably in a public sector environment
- As an Audit Committee Member for another Local Authority
- As a senior manager in a large or complex organisation with a good understanding of finance, accounts and audit
Even if you do not have any of the experience listed above, but you have other experience that you think means you could perform this role, please do apply, and tell us about your experience.
The applicant should also be a good communicator and have the ability to digest and understand complex financial information.
