Role Summary
Unified Job Description – Coastal & Marine Engineering
The Coastal & Marine Engineer delivers coastal, marine, and hydraulic engineering assessments to support infrastructure and nuclear-related project environments. Work includes coastal process evaluation, marine structure design support, modelling, risk assessment, and integrated design development with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivery of coastal and marine engineering assessments, including coastal protection and marine structures for cooling-water systems.
- Production and review of calculations, models, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
- Development of design substantiation and technical justifications aligned with project, regulatory, and governance requirements.
- Collaboration with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Assessment of coastal processes, wave loading, scour, flooding, erosion, and climate-change impacts on infrastructure.
- Participation in design reviews, technical assurance activities, and resolution of engineering queries.
- Ensuring compliance with codes, standards, quality requirements, and CDM 2015 obligations.
- Engagement with stakeholders, suppliers, and project teams to support safe, sustainable, and resilient design outcomes.

- Hydraulic & Marine Modelling — wave action, flooding, climate resilience, numerical modelling tools.
- Environmental & Operational Load Assessment — wave action, scour, erosion, flooding, climate impacts.
- Design Substantiation — technical justification, safety-critical documentation, regulatory alignment.
- Technical Reporting — calculations, models, specifications, design documentation.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination — civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and project teams.
- Risk Assessment — flooding, erosion, scour, climate-change impacts.
- Digital Engineering Tools — coastal, hydraulic, or numerical modelling software.
- Stakeholder Engagement — regulators, suppliers, project teams.
- Leadership — mentoring, technical oversight, decision-making.
