About Us:
Demeter Bio is a frontier materials company advancing the next generation of PFAS-free materials. We combine polymer systems, biomimicry, materials engineering, and sustainable chemistry to address urgent performance and environmental challenges facing modern industries.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Coating Scientist with strong industrial formulation experience to support the development of PFAS-free durable water and oil repellent (DWOR) technologies across a range of substrates and industrial applications.
You will drive coating formulation and surface engineering from lab scale through pilot validation, working at the intersection of polymer science, surface chemistry, and coating application processes and other industrial application methods.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to create category-defining sustainable coating materials with real-world industrial impact.
Formulation & Development
- Design and optimize coating formulations to meet target performance specifications
- Develop polymer systems for durable, high-performance coatings
- Engineer coatings for durability, breathability, and substrate feel/finish
- Optimize formulations for manufacturability, cost, and processing robustness
- Assess formulation stability, rheological behaviour, and relevant physicochemical properties

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
