Collections Manager - Contract - Midlands

A leading organisation within the UK energy sector is seeking an experienced Collections Manager to oversee the day-to-day collections activity for a small team within its Industrial & Commercial (I&C) Energy Supply business.

This is a hands-on operational role, focused on driving collections activity, managing outstanding debt and ensuring the team is effectively prioritising and progressing customer accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day activity and priorities of a small I&C collections team.
  • Monitor aged debt and ensure overdue accounts are actively progressed and followed up.
  • Support the team with complex, high-value and escalated customer accounts.
  • Work with customers to secure payment and agree appropriate payment arrangements where required.
  • Liaise with Billing, Customer Service, Credit and Account Management to resolve issues preventing payment.
  • Monitor team performance against collections targets and KPIs, providing coaching and support.
  • Ensure accurate records of customer accounts, contact and collections activity are maintained.
  • Identify and escalate significant risks, aged debt and problematic accounts to senior stakeholders.

About You

You are an experienced Collections Manager, Collections Team Leader or Senior Collections professional with a strong B2B collections background.

Ideally, you will have direct experience within I&C energy supply or utilities, and understand the challenges associated with collecting high-value commercial debt.

This is a hands-on role, so you will be comfortable managing a small team while remaining close to the detail of daily collections activity. You will be confident handling difficult conversations, resolving issues and driving the team towards agreed collection targets.

Essential Experience

  • Strong experience in B2B collections, debt recovery or credit control.
  • Previous experience managing or leading a small team.
  • Experience managing commercial customer debt and aged debt portfolios.
  • Strong negotiation and customer communication skills.
  • Experience working with internal teams to resolve billing or account issues.
  • Ability to monitor performance and drive collections against agreed targets.

  • Experience within I&C energy supply
  • Understanding of commercial energy billing, metering and customer accounts.
  • Experience dealing with high-value commercial customers and complex energy debt.
