Additional allowance of £3,000 per year, paid monthly
Opportunity for additional earnings through overtime
Location: St Fergus
Working pattern: Site-based, 5 days a week
Travel: Candidate must be located within reasonable commutable distance to St Fergus site. Occasional travel to Aberdeen Compressor Station.

About The Role

As a COMAH Compliance Engineer, you will provide specialist process safety, security and environmental compliance support across Operational Regions and National Gas Services in compliance with legislation, regulations and company standards while driving continuous improvement in safety and operational performance.

This role provides the expertise and assurance needed to protect people, assets and the environment while ensuring compliance with industry legislation and standards.

Working closely with operational teams, regulators and external stakeholders, the COMAH Compliance Engineer plays a key role in promoting a strong safety culture, managing risk, supporting incident investigations and helping the business deliver safe, efficient and compliant operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide specialist process safety, security and environmental compliance support across operational sites and projects.
  • Monitor, maintain and report compliance data, risk registers, asset health information, licences and regulatory submissions.
  • Conduct assurance visits, audits and inspections, identifying improvement opportunities and sharing best practice.
  • Support and participate in formal process safety assessments, including HAZOP, HAZID and risk assessment activities.
  • Lead and promote continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety culture and compliance performance.
  • Investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Act as a representative for National Gas with regulators, customers, emergency services and other external stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a highly regulated operational environment, influencing positive safety behaviours and providing expert guidance to maintain the highest standards of compliance and performance.

Essential

  • Good understanding of process safety and environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working within a high-hazard or safety-critical environment, demonstrating strong safety leadership.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of high-pressure gas transmission systems, above-ground installations, or similar industrial assets.
  • Experience of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to coach and support others.
  • HNC qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, or significant relevant operational/engineering experience.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis training or experience.
  • Experience supporting CDM and Temporary Works compliance activities.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory bodies, local authorities or emergency service.
