We are seeking to appoint an assertive, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Environmental Health Technical Assistant who can accept and tackle demanding goals. The Assistant will be motivated to bring changes to people’s behaviour in terms of Environmental Crimes (predominantly supporting Fly Tipping enforcement work, acting as a witness). Day to day duties will include the enforcement of relevant legislation in respect of behaviour concerning Fly Tipping, which may include the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices. You may also be expected to appear in court to speak to the offences/evidence you have been witness to. You may also be involved in Litter and Dog Fouling enforcement.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent literacy, numerical, and IT skills, and have the ability to organise your workload in an effective and productive way.
Ideally you will have experience working with the public and have carried out criminal enforcement duties in order to join our expanding specialist team.
Environmental Crime Team
No specific qualification is required; however, enforcement of criminal legislation (ideally within this area and/or a related area) would be beneficial but not essential.
Experience in utilising criminal evidence gathered from CCTV sources would be beneficial but again not essential.
This is a temporary post for 22 months from your start date. You will require a driving licence, as all areas of the district will require to be visited.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
