GQ is looking for a Commerce Writer to help grow GQ Recommends’ style content. This person will write and publish a daily lineup of commerce content, from deeply reported buying guides to punchy obsessions and timely product news.
The role will work across every corner of the GQ Recommends ecosystem, with an emphasis on visual storytelling through video, social, newsletter, and other emerging formats. The ideal candidate is as comfortable shaping a story behind the scenes as they are stepping in front of a camera.
Reporting to GQ’s Commerce Director, the Commerce Writer will work with editorial, cross-functional departments and external partners to develop high-impact content that meets ambitious revenue growth targets. The role requires exceptional editorial judgement and refined taste, as well as a familiarity with commerce publishing and SEO.

The ideal candidate has 3 years of experience as a full-time writer, a keen understanding of the affiliate landscape, and the range to move seamlessly between categories, whether that’s sneakers, suiting, or the never-ending pursuit of the perfect white tee. A strong eye for details, trends, and packaging is a must. So is a distinct editorial POV.
Responsibilities
Content Strategy & Quality
- Pitch, write, and update seasonal shopping guides, roundups, and single-item odes for GQ Recommends’ style coverage
- Partner with SEO to implement best practices and optimise content for search, newsletter, and social
- In collaboration with the Commerce Editor and priority merchant partners, help develop and execute content lineups to support those partnerships and help us meet our revenue goals
- Work cross-functionally with editorial, audience development, social, and video teams to maintain GQ Recommends’ authority, humour, and editorial point of view across every platform
- Continually experiment with new formats, visual storytelling approaches, and creative ways to make shopping content feel fresh, useful, and distinctly GQ
- Assist with the newsletter strategy ideation and execution for the brand, including vertical growth, content quality, and acquisition
Partnerships & Innovation
- Execute partnership content at the brand level, working closely with directors, brand leads, and the partnerships team to ensure deliverables strengthen relationships and drive revenue
- Assist in the conception and execution of new shoppable multi-modal content formats across various channels, collaborating with cross-functional partners to create engaging and monetizable content experiences for audiences
- Champion experimentation with new formats, distribution models, and revenue approaches across the team

Requirements
- A minimum of three years of writing experience in a digital media environment, with a background in service journalism and product recommendations preferred
- Familiarity with affiliate platforms and programs (i.e., Skimlinks and Amazon)
- Understanding of web analytics, SEO, and commerce best practices
- An enthusiasm for style as it relates to all categories of shopping coverage
- Ability to produce conversational, approachable commerce stories that are factually accurate, and that motivate and inspire readers
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with editorial, advertising, design, video, and engineering teams
- Excellent organisational, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
