Commercial Account Handler

London | Up to £50,000 + Bonus

Would you like to be the first employee of a new commercial insurance brokerage and help build the business from day one?

We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Account Handler to join an ambitious new independent insurance brokerage launching in London.

This isn't a typical Account Handler vacancy within an established corporate structure. You will become employee number one, working directly alongside the founder and playing an important role in shaping the client service, processes, and culture of the business as it grows.

The brokerage is being launched by a highly experienced insurance professional with a successful background in building and leading broking businesses. There is significant investment behind the venture and a clear growth strategy and ambitious plans to reach approximately £3m revenue within its first five years.

The vision is to build a professional, high-performing brokerage without the unnecessary hierarchy and red tape that can come with larger corporate environments.

What will you be doing?

You will support and manage a growing portfolio of commercial insurance clients, with an initial focus across:

  • Real Estate - Residential & Commercial Property Owners
  • Construction

Typical premiums will range from approximately £10,000 to £250,000 GWP, alongside larger and more complex commercial programmes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Your role will include managing renewals, mid-term adjustments, and ongoing client requirements; preparing market submissions; negotiating with insurers; reviewing policy documentation; and developing strong relationships with both clients and insurers.

You'll also work closely with the founder as new business is brought into the brokerage.

Importantly, you'll have the opportunity to contribute beyond traditional account handling. As the first hire, your ideas around client service, processes, systems, and how the business should operate will genuinely matter.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with solid Commercial Account Handling experience who is ready for something a little different.

You'll ideally have:

  • Around 5+ years' commercial insurance broking experience.
  • Strong technical commercial insurance knowledge.
  • Experience managing your own renewals and client servicing.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and insurers.
  • Experience with Real Estate, Property Owners, and/or Construction risks would be advantageous.
  • Experience using Acturis would be beneficial.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and commercially minded approach.

More importantly, you'll need to be excited by the idea of joining a growing business at the beginning.

This role will suit someone who is ambitious, enjoys working at pace, and wants more influence over their career and working environment than they may currently have within a larger brokerage.

Why consider it?

Joining as the first employee creates a very different opportunity from joining an established team.

The business expects to grow quickly, with an initial team of approximately four people anticipated within the first 12 months and continued investment in new hires thereafter.

As the business grows, so can your role.

Whether your ambitions are to lead an Account Handling team, develop into a broader broking position, or simply become a key long-term member of a successful independent brokerage, there will be scope to shape that journey.

  • Salary: Up to £50,000
  • Location: London
  • Bonus: Incentive scheme being developed
  • Benefits: A market-leading employee proposition is currently being developed
  • Flexibility: Available

The interview process will consist of an initial informal Teams conversation followed by a face-to-face meeting in London.

Interviews are beginning immediately.

If you're an experienced Commercial Account Handler who likes the idea of getting in at the beginning rather than joining once everything has already been built, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.
