Are you an experienced insurance professional looking to take the next step in your career?
We are working with an award-winning global insurance business in Birmingham that is looking for an Insurance Account Manager/Account Handler to join its established team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your commercial insurance career, managing and supporting a strong SME portfolio across a broad range of commercial insurance classes, with exposure to clients within the public sector.
The opportunity
You will be responsible for servicing an existing portfolio of clients, with a strong focus on client retention, account development and identifying cross-selling opportunities.
The role would suit someone with existing commercial insurance experience, although the business is also open to candidates from high-volume personal lines, underwriting or claims backgrounds who can demonstrate strong client-facing skills and the potential to transition successfully into commercial broking.
Responsibilities
- Preparing documentation for new customers, capturing their insurance requirements accurately.
- Obtaining renewal terms, researching suitable alternatives and preparing renewal information for Account Managers.
- Coordinating renewal quotations across an existing client portfolio.
- Handling mid-term adjustments and responding to client requirements.
- Managing insurer queries and confirming policy coverage.
- Processing policies and ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately.
- Supporting Account Managers in delivering a high level of client service.
- Identifying opportunities to retain, develop and cross-sell within existing accounts.

Ideally, you'll have:
- Experience within commercial insurance or strong personal lines, preferably across a range of products.
- Experience working in a sales-focused or target-driven environment would be advantageous.
- Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines.
- A proactive, process-driven approach.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Acturis is desirable.
- A strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality and handling customer information appropriately.
The business is also happy to consider candidates who don't have a traditional commercial broking background.
This could include:
- High-volume Personal Lines professionals – particularly those with experience handling more complex/manual policies rather than predominantly e-trade business.
- Underwriters – particularly those with strong client-facing skills who are looking to move into broking.
- Claims professionals – particularly those who have developed strong customer relationships, negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
What matters most is your insurance knowledge, client-facing ability, attitude and willingness to develop within commercial insurance.
