Commercial Actuarial Manager - Longevity & Structured Solutions

A particularly interesting Manager-level opportunity for an actuary who understands longevity pricing and complex retirement transactions, but wants a role broader than traditional pricing.

The position sits close to the commercial side of a global life reinsurer and works with front-office and senior stakeholders as new and increasingly complex transactions are developed. The successful candidate will get involved early: understanding how a new structure works, considering its financial and operational implications, and then translating that complexity into something senior decision-makers and wider teams can clearly understand.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

One of the strongest sells is the breadth. In many longevity roles you become heavily focused on either longevity swaps or asset-backed transactions; here you can gain exposure to both, alongside new products and structures emerging across international markets, including Asia.

There is a technical reporting element - including understanding the implications of new business across valuation, capital and accounting - but I would view this primarily as a commercial and strategic actuarial role. You'll work across functions to make sure new transactions can actually be implemented, reported and governed effectively, while also producing senior-level insight on the risks and strategic implications.

I'm ideally looking for a qualified actuary with strong longevity knowledge, preferably gained in pricing, transactions or structured solutions. Experience of longevity swaps, pension risk transfer, derivatives or asset-intensive business would all translate well.

There is also potential for this position to develop into a broader leadership role as the team and business continue to grow. This will give you a unique level of exposure to senior business executives across the company, and is suited to a very ambitious Actuary.
