The Role

The post-holder is responsible for analysing complicated internal, industry, economic and open-source datasets and producing detailed outputs that meet business requirements, presenting both strategic and tactical recommendations for improvements across a wide area of commercial interests. In particular, the post-holder will be directly responsible for analysing Retail, Pricing and Revenue Management, and non-Rail commercial data (becoming the TfW expert in these areas), covering an analytical portfolio of tens of millions in revenue.

The post-holder supports the Commercial Insight Manager and Head of Commercial Insight and Analytics with forecasting activity, aiding TfW's understanding of drivers of demand and revenue through analysis of weekly demand and revenue performance across the TfW network and beyond.

The post-holder is responsible for producing daily, weekly, and periodic reports on passenger revenue and other commercial metrics, ensuring accuracy and implementing regular improvements to reports as necessary. The post-holder also provides support to the Commercial Insight Manager and wider Commercial department to help deliver all commercial objectives, making recommendations for revenue growth and/or other improvement where necessary. This role may be required to act as a deputy to the Commercial Insight Manager during periods of absence or leave and may therefore be required to pull together information for the Head of Commercial Strategy and Chief Commercial Officer from time to time.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
