Commercial Analyst

Greater Manchester
£50-55k plus high level bonus and benefits

Nigel Wright is delighted to be partnering with an instantly recognisable financial services business in their search for an ambitious Commercial Analyst to join its commercial investment team. This opportunity offers exceptional exposure to investment appraisal, portfolio performance, strategic decision-making and stakeholder engagement within a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

The successful candidate will support senior leaders by transforming complex data into meaningful commercial insights, helping to shape investment decisions, assess new opportunities and identify potential risks across a diverse investment portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse large volumes of financial and operational data to identify trends, opportunities and areas of potential risk.
  • Build, maintain and enhance analytical models to support investment decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Monitor portfolio and investment performance, highlighting key movements, emerging risks and value creation opportunities.
  • Support the assessment of prospective transactions, investment opportunities and capital deployment initiatives.
  • Prepare meaningful management information, commercial analysis and performance reporting for both senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Investigate performance variances and provide recommendations to improve investment outcomes.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting and scenario planning activities across investment portfolios.
  • Produce detailed insights on investment pipelines, portfolio returns and future performance expectations.
  • Assist with responding to stakeholder information requests through the preparation of robust analysis and supporting commentary.
  • Work closely with senior decision makers to communicate findings and influence commercial strategies.
  • Undertake ad-hoc analytical projects, business case development and strategic evaluations.
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement of reporting, modelling and analytical processes.

About You

  • Degree educated with a strong academic background, ideally within Finance, Economics, Mathematics or another related quantitative discipline.
  • 12 months' experience gained within Corporate Finance, Deal Advisory, Transaction Services, Investment Management or a comparable analytical environment.
  • Exceptional Excel modelling skills with experience handling complex and sizeable datasets.
  • Strong SQL capabilities with the ability to extract, manipulate and interpret data from multiple sources.
  • Naturally analytical with the ability to turn data into clear commercial recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to interpret information from numerous data inputs.
  • Ability to identify risks, challenge assumptions and provide practical solutions.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
